Irish Chain Quilt Along – Block B
Hey there! Welcome to week 2 of our quilt along, I’m so happy you’ve decided to join me! The quilt along will run December 10 through January 31, 2025. My goal with this quilt along is firstly to have fun, and secondly to slow down and enjoy the process of quilting, during this very busy holiday season. Below you’ll find the instructions for Block B.

Irish Chain Quilt Block B
Cutting Instructions to make (1) Block B:
All measurements include 1/4″ – wide seam allowances.
WOF = Width of fabric (42″ wide)
From the background fabric, cut:
- B – (4) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares
- C – (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles
From the print fabric, cut:
- E – (4) 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” squares
- F – (9) 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” squares
Cutting Instructions to make (17) Block B:
From the background fabric, cut (12) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips, then cut:
- B – (68) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares (4 for each Block B)
- C – (68) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles (4 for each Block B)
From the print fabrics, cut:
- E – (68) 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” squares (4 for each Block B)
- F – (153) 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” squares (9 for each Block B)
Block B Sewing Instructions
- Arrange (3) E – squares with (3) F – squares as shown. Sew together in pairs and press toward fabric F. The units should measure 2 1/2” x 4 1/2” unfinished.
- Arrange (3) E/F – units with (2) F – squares, and (1) E – square as shown. Sew together and press toward fabric F. Arrange the (3) pieces together as show. Sew the pieces together and press in the direction of the arrows. The 9-patch unit should measure 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ unfinished.
- Arrange (4) C – squares with (2) C – rectangles as shown. Sew together and press toward fabric F. Then arrange (4) B – squares with (2) F – squares as shown. Sew together and press toward fabric F. Next, arrange (2) B/F side units with the 9-patch unit. Sew the pieces together and press toward side unit B/F. Finally, arrange the (2) C/F top units as shown and sew the pieces together, press in the direction of the arrows. The Block B should measure 10 1/2” x 10 1/2” unfinished.

I’ll be back January 7 with the quilt assembly instructions. In the meantime, sew all your A and B blocks – 35 total blocks (1 to 2 per day will get you there).
